A message from Brett

Kia ora e te whānau,

I hope you’re keeping well.

In light of the scare that a positive COVID-19 case might have been found in Levin, we have reviewed the events of this weekend and have decided that the shared lunch and haggis party that would have followed the Saint Andrew’s Day celebration will no longer take place. This decision was taken in order to keep our people safe, should COVID have spread further than the one positive case. We understand this means Saint Andrew’s Day won’t be the same as it has in previous years, but we ask for your understanding as we navigate an increasingly tricky global pandemic.

For those who would feel more comfortable remaining at home this Sunday, the service will be available via Zoom. See the link below.

Nonetheless, we still have an eventful weekend in the life of Levin Uniting Church this weekend. Join us on Sunday morning for our Saint Andrew’s service. There will be bagpipes and we will acknowledge the kirkin’ o’ the tartan, with a difference… If you have something that is culturally significant to you, I invite you to bring it along. We will have a time of blessing as part of the service for these taonga.

And as mentioned above, there will no longer be the shared lunch afterwards. However, the pipers will remain after the service and continue playing outside the church. You’re most welcome to stick around for that. We just ask that you continue to wear your mask and keep your distance from other bubbles.

We hope you can join us for what will still be a great weekend.

Brett Reid.
Ministry Intern.

Worship this Sunday, 10am

This Sunday we will celebrate the feast day of Saint Andrew: disciple of Jesus, patron Saint of Scotland, namesake of this church before amalgamation. Specifically, we will acknowledge a tradition that has recently experienced resurgence in the church around the world, the kirkin’ o’ the tartan, but with a difference. To aid in this, we will be reflecting on Galatians 3:19-29 and the Apostle Paul’s emphasis on faith in Jesus in his multicultural context in Galatia.

As mentioned above, there will no longer be a shared lunch after the service. Our apologies if you’ve already made something. We’ve made this decision for the safety of our people.

For those who would feel more comfortable remaining at home this Sunday, the service will be available via Zoom. Please ensure that you are online by 9:55am so we can admit you to the Zoom call before the service starts.

We look forward to seeing you there!
